London calling. . .

I decided to keep with the Lowry theme but I'm a London girl so I drew the place I call home. London. That's where I grew up. I love London, I love the hustle and bustle and I love the smell. It's a city smell, car fumes, tarmac, dust and all sorts of  foody smells.  I haven't lived in London for years but every time I stand on Westminster Bridge and look at Big Ben I know I'm home. Every time I see a red telephone box or red London bus it time warps me back to when I was a young(er) girl.

So now I have a new obsession, everything London, red and totally British and Lowry of course... :)

What Fun and Nonsense have you been up to this week.... :) xxx
Off to See Lottie  and George and Sunday Sketches.. :)

All we England loving American Girls do so love those phone booths! Awesome drawing! We spent 2 days in London (many years ago) ~ I was terrified and felt totally out of place! We could have used a London Girl such as yourself to show us non city people around! :)))

It's wonderful how you have described London. I could hear the beautiful noise and noticed the city smell. I love this city too and I also love your cute London girl calling from the cute phone booth.

Ooh me too. I lived in London during my 20s - the perfect time! Every time I go back it feels like 'my city' again. Your girl outside the phone box is us!

I love your London girl. I have only been to London once but it was wonderful. It would be fun to go back! Your work immediately draws me in and I want to see more and read more. I always feel like there is a book just waiting to be written. Have a great week.

This week I have been experimenting with oil pastels. I'm having fun but have lots to learn.

Lovely double page spread with your red telephones boxes and buses. There is something so English about them (and London too, of course). I like your description of the smells of London - you must be glad you didn't live in the 17th Century with all its 'delicious' smells!

Catherine I love your London art, it's such a great piece! I too associate smells to places, it's our senses that can awaken our memories, they are such a gift we need to cherish each day.
Thanks for sharing your London corner with us, it's delightful!

I live 60 miles south of London. If I can avoid going, I will, lol! But only because I don't like hustle and bustle... I live in a town where a farmer will happily take his chicken in to a pub and nobody will bat an eyelid! That said - we do love the odd day trip. This is where me might go to an art gallery or museum, or maybe a show! It's what we get used to I suppose... Anyway - I LOVE your drawings with those typical London scenes! Lovely!! Can't wait to see more :0)

I'm a quiet life in the country sort of person and never liked London but the way you described it made it sound wonderful-i felt that way about new York when we went there so I can totally understand how you would love that about your home City. I love these Lowry-esque illustrations.
